The Los Angeles Kings are experiencing a rather bad case of deja vu.

According to a report from Curtis Zupke of the Los Angeles Times, veteran goaltender Jonathan Quick has been injured and once again it comes right at the start of the regular season. If you're confused about what the hell may have happened to the Kings star goaltender you do not need to worry, you're far from being alone on that front.

Zupke is reporting that the Kings netminder was injured at some point during Kings' practice although we have been provided with no details regarding how the injury occurred, how severe it is, or regarding the nature of the injury itself. What we do know is that the Kings are calling this a "lower body injury" and additionally that Quick is currently being listed as "day to day." This is obviously terrible news for the Kings and in spite of the day to day prognosis it sounds like there may be a good chance that Quick will miss several games due to this current injury.

According to Los Angeles Kings insider Jon Rosen Quick is currently under evaluation but in spite of that the Kings are already preparing to call up a replacement due to this injury, the first sign that Quick is going to be missing some time. Additionally Rosen is reporting that the Kings will not be taking Quick on their upcoming road trip if he is not ready to go, and when you consider the incoming call up it sounds like the Kings themselves do not expect him to be ready.

This is of particular significance because the Kings are set to take off on a 4 game Canadian road trip that will see them out of town for a considerable length of time, time that Quick will seemingly now be spending in Los Angeles recovering from whatever injury he has suffered. Although this is purely speculation on my part based on the talk around this situation I expect Quick will miss the King's upcoming match ups against the Winnipeg Jets, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Long time fans of Quick and the Los Angeles Kings organization are likely getting some very bad flashbacks to 2016, a season in which Quick injured during the Kings' very first game of the season. That time the injury proved to be so severe that it kept Quick out of action for the better part of 6 months and although I can certainly understand the concern from fans, the good news here is that this injury does not appear to be anywhere near as serious at this time.

After missing all but 17 games in the 2016 - 2017 NHL regular season Quick had a big bounce back season last year. He played in a whopping 64 games for the Kings and over those 64 games he recorded a 2.40 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. It was a very solid showing from Quick and one that showed he was still one of the NHL's most reliable and consistent goaltenders.

Stay tuned for more updates on Quick in the coming days.
