The Edmonton Oilers may be looking to rekindle an old flame.

The National Hockey League has been inundated with talk of a potential Taylor Hall trade for several days now and it seems like each and every day more and more teams are coming out of the woodwork and joining the list of potential candidates to land the former Hart Memorial Trophy winner. One of the teams that many have speculated could be a potential fit for Hall has been his former team, the Edmonton Oilers, the organization that traded him during the era of former general manager Peter Chiarelli in Edmonton.

That has only been speculation up until this point but now TSN's Jason Gregor is reporting that the Oilers have indeed held talks with the Devils on the Taylor Hall front. Not only have the Oilers been talking to the Devils, according to Gregor the discussions between Oilers general manager Ken Holland and Devils' general manager Ray Shero have been ongoing for weeks now.

From Gregor:

Holland has always had interest in acquiring Hall. He and Shero have had talks for the past three weeks. Whether their offer is as good as what other teams offers remains to be seen. Is he willing to outbid teams is the bringing question.

Hall of course was selected first overall by the Edmonton Oilers all the way back in 2010, and many expected the promising young forward to blossom into an NHL star. He never truly hit his stride as an Oiler however and eventually he was traded to the Devils in the now much maligned trade for defenseman Adam Larsson. Chiarelli has since been ridiculed for making the trade, Hall would win the Hart Memorial Trophy with the Devils following the trade, and many have wondered about whether or not Ken Holland would consider bringing him back. Given today's report from Gregor the answer seems to be a clear yes, but whether or not he can make it a reality is another matter entirely.
