All eyes will be on the Vegas Golden Knights this summer. The NHL’s 31st franchise officially enters the league this offseason and general manager George McPhee will have his work cut out for him in assembling a roster from scratch. While he’s already made a couple signings, the Golden Knights have not yet made an official team to team transaction, but that could change as early as next week according to TSN reporter Pierre LeBrun.

When asked when he plans to start making transactions in advance of the June 21st Expansion Draft, McPhee replied, “I’m hoping that we can start doing that next week.” He added, “I’m hoping that we can start getting a few deals done because I think it’s going to be a lot to ask to do them all within the expansion window.”

That expansion window that McPhee refers to is the 72-hour time leading up to the Expansion Draft and it enables the Golden Knights to review eligible players left unprotected by their team and sign unprotected free agents. Interestingly, McPhee admits that his plan is to be “aggressive” in the pursuit of free agents and trade assets. Buckle up, folks. This is going to be an expansion franchise like no other before.
