Report: Las Vegas running in to trouble with name because of another hockey team.

The Las Vegas franchise will not be named the Knights despite the name being widely rumored for months now.

The owner of the soon-to-be NHL franchise Bill Foley revealed this week that a conflict in branding with the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights, an incredibly popular team in Canada, will prevent them from using the name they wanted.

From Steve Carpp of the Las Vegas Review Journal:

Foley said “Knights” is still in play in some form. But the name “Las Vegas Knights” isn’t likely because a Canadian junior hockey team in London, Ontario, owns the rights to the name “Knights.”

“The London Knights own the name in Canada and to acquire the name from London is not economically feasible,” Foley said. “In the U.S., ‘Knights’ are fine. But we can’t use it in Canada.”

So what will the name be? We don't know yet, but what we do know is that Foley has reportedly narrowed the name down to just four candidates, and that the announcement will be made late next month or in early October.
