Forbes released their annual rankings of NHL franchises by value and, surprise, surprise, the Toronto Maple Leafs are on the rise. While the New York Rangers top the list for the third consecutive season with a total value of $1.5 billion, the Leafs vaulted past the Montreal Canadiens into the 2nd position with a total value of $1.4 billion. The lowly Habs have a pathetic value of just $1.25 billion…

We kid, but it’s true that the Leafs are on the rise. In fact, the entire NHL is on the rise with franchise values up 15% over the previous season. The average value of an NHL franchise is $594 million, with the lowly Arizona Coyotes in the basement at just a $300 million evaluation.
