Report: Leafs make a surprising move in goal following blowout loss to Flyers

It's panic time for Coach Keefe already.

In case you missed it last night, the Toronto Maple Leafs dropped a 6-1 decision to the Philadelphia Flyers and did NOT look good in doing so.

Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe was critical of his team’s performance, particularly with how he believes they quit on goaltender Frederik Andersen.

”Our response, our reaction after giving up the empty-net goal is not what we want to be about,” said Keefe after the game.

Superstar Auston Matthews echoed his coach’s sentiments too saying:

”We let in that empty-net goal and then, I mean, we can’t just fold like that. It’s unacceptable to do that to our starting goalie, a guy that’s stolen games for us, he’s been a brick wall for us all year and that’s just unacceptable on our part.”

No doubt… the Leafs left Freddie out to dry. But here’s the thing… Freddie ain’t too worried about it:

Surprisingly though, it appears as though Keefe will turn back to Andersen this evening when the Leafs face the Colorado Avalanche.

Check out this report from Leafs insider Kristen Shilton:

Wow… that’s surprising given Keefe’s comments earlier this week:

I mean… here’s how I see it. The Leafs blew it last night. They let their goalie down. Originally the plan must have been for backup Michael Hutchinson to play tonight against the Avs. But when you drop a stinker like they did last night in front of Andersen, you have to give them the opportunity to make it up to their number one goalie.

Standby for official confirmation of tonight’s starting lineup, but don’t be surprised if Freddie gets the back to back start.
