Report: Leafs make decision on future for young star
Keystone Press

Toronto Maple Leafs top prospect Timothy Liljegren isn’t going anywhere. At least, not without getting a fair shake at the team’s main training camp later this offseason The 18-year-old, 17th overall selection in this past June’s NHL Entry Draft has impressed the team’s coaching and management staff at prospects camp and rookie tournament to not only earn an entry-level contract, but also a earn an invitation to the Leafs’ official training camp.

This news comes from a report from Liljegren’s parent club in the Swedish Elite League, Rogle. The team’s general manager Anders Carlsson explains, “Timothy is Toronto's player and they are the ones who will make the decision. We have to wait and see, the only thing we know at the moment is that Timothy will be joining Toronto’s main training camp in September, and will not be in Sweden when the SHL launches.”

What that means for Liljegren in the long run is unclear. The 5’11”, 190 lb defenseman has all the tools to join the NHL right away and the Leafs could certainly use his skill on the back end. The opportunity is there for the youngster to grab a spot in training camp, but can he seize it?
