The Leafs taking a page out of the Wild playbook?

The Maple Leafs may be taking a page out of the Minnesota Wild playbook.

The Wild made a brilliant, and some would say devious, move earlier this week when they placed 25 year old center Jordan Schroeder on waivers just days before his arbitration hearing, presumably either as an attempt to have him claimed and avoid the process, or to demonstrate without a doubt to the arbitrator that there is extremely little interest in the player around the league.

On Friday the Maple Leafs announced a similar move, placing forward Peter Holland on waivers, and much like in the Schroeder case the move comes just days before his arbitration hearing is scheduled. The motivation for the Leafs is also likely the same as the Wild's here, and it will be interesting to see if anyone takes a stab at Holland on the waiver wire.
