Keystone Press.

There were multiple reports of a contract dispute over bonus money involving first overall pick in the 2016 National Hockey League Draft Auston Matthews and Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Lou Lamoriello, but Lamoriello is now making a claim that would suggest those reports were untrue.

According to a report from Sportsnet's Chris Johnston the Leafs GM stated that it took no more than 10 minutes to get a deal worked out with Matthews and his agent, Pat Brisson. The deal as we now know included the full bonuses that were reportedly a sticking point for Lamoriello who has a reputation for doing things old school.

Lamoriello's claim is all well and good, but it's important to note that the most recent report concerning the rumored bonus dispute cited comments from NHL executives who believed the Leafs GM was making a mistake. We will likely never know if Lamoriello was playing hard ball with Matthews or not.
