The Philadelphia Flyers have placed goaltender Brian Elliott on the injured reserve, and have called up goaltender Alex Lyon from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL), the team announced on Tuesday. Lyon is expected to make his NHL debut tomorrow to face the Washington Capitals.

There is some concerns with the goaltenders situation in Philadelphia, and general manager Ron Hextall could be forced to make a trade soon. With Elliott sidelined for an unknown amount of time, Michal Neuvirth workload could become a problem as well. As reported by NBC reporter John Boruk, Neuvirth has also been dealing with illness over the last few days.

Elliott started 38 games so far this season, posting a record of 19-11-7 with a 2.77 goal-against average and a .908 save percentage. He joined the Flyers as a free agent last summer.

Neuvirth started 14 games with the Flyers this season, posting a record of 5-6-1 with a 2.46 goal-against average and a .918 save percentage.

The Flyers are currently fifth in the Metropolitan division with a record of 24-17-8.
