This story has been ongoing for some time now, but it really picked up steam when last month details of an alleged sexual assault made by NHL plauer Mike Ribeiro against a young girl were made public. The details were extremely graphic and won't be repeated here, if you wish to see the details you can click on the link provided above. Those details provided a disturbing account from the victim and formed the basis for her lawsuit against Ribeiro. On Thursday a major development in the story was reported via the Nashville Post, one that has effectively put this story to rest, and one that has likely ensured the public will never know the true story of what happened. According to the Post after an eight hour mediation session the two sides have decided to settle the suit out of court, Ribeiro's lawyer quickly released this statement following the settlement.
"This civil matter has been amicably resolved without incurring further time-consuming and potentially costly litigation," Ribeiro's attorney, Brian Lauten of Dallas' Deans & Lyon, said in a statement to NashvillePost.com. "I am unable to discuss any of the elements of this confidential resolution. Mike looks forward to continuing to play hockey at a high level and looks forward to aggressively pursuing a Stanley Cup alongside his teammates. The Ribeiro family will not have any further comments on this matter."
As for the Nasville Predators they seem to be more concerned with having Ribeiro on the ice next season than any potentially disturbing off the ice issues.
"The organization understands Mike Ribeiro has resolved his civil case. We are pleased that Mike and his family can focus on their future and we will have no further comment."
The settlement will still need to be approved by a judge, but we don't expect there to be any issues in that regard, and as stated above we may never know the real story behind these events.
