It’s been just 11 days since Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares suffered a broken finger in a 4-3 OT loss to the Washington Capitals, but it feels like a lifetime ago for Leafs fans.

Since the captain’s injury, the team has gone 2-2-1 and haven’t looked particularly good. Saturday evening’s 5-2 loss at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens has Leafs Nation up in arms, screaming at the heavens for answers. Well… don’t jump off that bridge just yet, Leafs fans… JT is eyeing a return.

NHL insider Pierre LeBrun of TSN and The Athletic reported earlier today that Tavares is “coming along” and managed to shoot some pucks today for the first time since suffering his injury.

Well… that’s… something?

While it certainly gives Leafs fans some hope, there’s still no timetable for Tavares’ return and the team desperately needs him back in the lineup.

In eight games so far this season, the 29 year old Tavares has three goals and seven points. He put up a career high 47 goals and 88 points in 82 games with the Leafs last season.
