Day 2 of training camp for the Pittsburgh Penguins included an unexpected scare that had many holding their breath for several long moments.

The Penguins held a little scrimmage on Day 2 of training camp after head coach Mike Sullivan had laid out some drills for groups of players he had split into groups called Team 2 and Team 3 respectively. Now it is true that there are players in training camp who are out there trying to get themselves noticed, so things can get pretty intense on the ice at times, but you certainly do not expect players to come away from training camp scrimmages with injuries at the hands of their teammates.

It sounds like Pittsburgh Penguins star forward Evgeni Malkin may have come dangerously close to that reality on Saturday however as the Penguins star was tripped by one of his own teammates during a play, a trip that resulted in a dangerous looking collision. Penguins insider Dave Molinari reports that Malkin went "hard into the boards" after being the victim of the aforementioned trip, but the good news is that the gritty Russian forward appears to have shaken off the impact and seems to be none the worse for ware. Although some reports indicated that Malkin was "slow to get up" after the initial impact along the boards the fact that Malkin was able to pick himself up after the scary looking impact, and even managed to take the penalty shot that was awarded to him as as result of the trip, is a good sign for the Penguins here.

As for the player who tripped the star forward? Well it sounds like 25 year old center Dominik Simon is making a name for himself at training camp early on for all the wrong reasons. After coming off the best season of his NHL career by far, Simon appeared in 71 games recording 8 goals and 20 assists for a total of 28 points, all of which are career highs for the young forward, his first time in the headlines this season will be for this incident.

I have no doubt that the trip from Simon was unintentional however, and furthermore I fully expect that both players have already move past this considering that Malkin appears to be ok.
