Report: Maple Leafs now well over the salary cap ceiling.
Leafs well over the cap.... for now.
HockeyFeed
The Toronto Maple Leafs almost certainly have more planned for this summer.
After the Maple Leafs announced the signing of Zach Hyman to a new four year contract, we now know that the organization is well over the cap ceiling, and that's still with defenseman Connor Brown needing a new deal.
According to National Hockey League salary tracking site Cap Friendly, the Leafs currently find themselves a whopping $3.9 million dollars over the cap, and again that is with Brown's deal expected to be announced any day now.
To make matters worse, the team is only allowed to exceed the salary cap by a maximum of $7.5 million total during the offseason so that currently leaves general manager Lou Lamoriello with very little room to work with if he intends to make more moves this summer.
It seems likely that the Leafs will look for a way to shed some of that salary this summer.
