Report: Maple Leafs will not compensate Devils or Red Wings with 2016 3rd round pick.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be making their rival clubs wait as long as possible before giving them compensation.

According to a report from General Fanager, the Leafs have made the deicision to retain their 3rd round pick in 2016 instead of using to compensate either the New Jersey Devils or the Detroit Red Wings for the acquisition of Lou Lamoriello and Mike Babcock respectively. Instead the Red Wings will be granted the Leafs third round pick in 2017 and the Devils will have to wait until 2018 for their compensation.

Obviously the motivation for Toronto here is to give up the highest possible pick in the draft, and there is likely a belief that they will finish better in the next two seasons within the organization.
