Good news for the Edmonton Oilers fans: as TSN’s Ryan Rishaug reported on Twitter, the organization is already dicussing a possible contract extension with 29-year-old left winger Patrick Maroon. Rishaug confirmed that there has already been preliminary discussions the Oilers and Maroon’s agent Allain Roy

Maroon is coming off the best season of is career, as he scored 27 goals and added 15 assists for 42 points in 81 games. Of course, playing with the Art Ross, Hart Memorial and the Ted Lindsay trophies winner Connor McDavid might have helped, but who said playing with hockey phenoms was easy? Still, the recent contract extensions awarded to both McDavid and Leon Draisaitl might make Maroon’s extension negociations a bit tricky, as Oilers are already committed for $60 million in 2018-2019.

Still, there’s a lot of time ahead for the negotiation to go through, and knowing that both sides are already talking to each other is a really good sign, both for the Oilers organization and its fans.
