Report: McLellan juggles lines, moves McDavid to the wing

Woah there. He did what now?

The Edmonton Oilers continued their free fall Friday night when they lost to a bottom-feeding team in the Eastern conference.

The Buffalo Sabres took the Oilers out easily by a score of 3-1, and put Todd McLellan's team into further jeopardy as the first quarter of the season has come and passed.

The Oilers sit in the league's basement yet again, a scene all too familiar over the past decade, but thought to never be seen again in the Connor McDavid era.

McLellan decided to juggle up his lines, and this is the combination he came up with today at practice.

What isn't mentioned in this tweet, is how McLellan had Mike Cammalleri alternating with McDavid at center on the top line. McDavid was pushed to the right wing.

Obviously with the way things are going, trying something radically different isn't a crazy thing to do - but pushing the league's best player off his natural position seems like too much.

It seems unlikely that this experiment will hold up in game action, although if the Oilers don't make things work against the Boston Bruins on Sunday, your guess is as good as ours as to what will happen next with McDavid.

Stay tuned.
