Report: More waiver moves coming from Oilers

This is just downright embarrassing now… completely erasing Chiarelli’s moves.

In case you missed it, the Edmonton Oilers assigned veteran defenseman Andrej Sekera to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors on a conditioning stint earlier this week.

According to CapFriendly.com the Oilers have just $51,000 available in cap space and once Sekera is recalled, the team is going to have some hard decisions to make. No doubt the team would love to rid themselves of highly paid and underperforming players like Milan Lucic, Ryan Spooner, Kris Russell and Cam Talbot, but that’s easier said than done.

NHL insider Frank Seravalli from TSN reports that the Oilers seem likely to waive and demote defensemen Brandon Manning and Alex Petrovic, both recent additions to the team under now fired GM Peter Chiarelli.

The two players earn a combined $4.2 million against the cap and have struggled to stay in the team’s lineup with regularity. Suffice it to say that they haven’t been the rock solid additions that Chiarelli was hoping for when he acquired them.

Stay tuned, Oilers fans. The shakeup in Edmonton continues.
