According to an anonymous source that reported to Barstool Sports’ Rear Admiral report, former 1st overall selection of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft Rick Nash is retiring.

Per source, Rick Nash is going to send in his paperwork and announce his retirement.

But… hold the phone. Not so fast says Nash’s agent Joe Resnick.

Statement from Joe Resnick, Rick Nash’s agent, addressing speculation: “There is no truth to the tweet that Rick Nash is retiring today.  Our position has not changed since July 1.

For what it's worth... Nash does have a history with concussion and head injuries. It's likely that the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Meaning, that while he's not officially retired just yet, the 34 year old Nash isn't anywhere close to being ready to play an NHL game. Whether that means he's done, or he's spending his days preparing to make an NHL return only he knows for sure. As sad as it is to say, our money is on him never playing an NHL game again. Concussions have taken their toll and at 34 years of age Nash's pace of play has slowed down considerably.

At one point in time Nash was considered one of the most dominant forwards in hockey, scoring 40 goals and claiming a Rocket Richard Trophy with the Columbus Blue Jackets back in 2008-09. But, that was ten years ago. Last season Nash struggled, but did manage 21 goals on the season split between the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins. In total, Nash has 437 goals and 805 points in 1060 games split between the Blue Jackets, Rangers and Bruins. There's no denying his skill and his consistent point production, but the knock on Nash his entire career has been his abysmal postseason record. Even during the Rangers' run up to the 2014 Stanley Cup Final, Nash managed just three goals and 10 points in 25 playoff games. If this is indeed the end for the former first overall selection, he'll go down as one of the most talented and skilled players of his generation. But alas, aside from International glory, Nash has no championships on his resume.
