Report: NHL captain spotted getting x-rays after the 2nd game of the season.

It appears that one of the National Hockey League's captain has either suffered a serious injury, or at the very least his team suspects that he may have suffered a serious injury. 

The Saturday night match up between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Colorado Avalanche seemed to take a considerable toll on the players involved in the game with reports now that indicate key players on both sides of the ice were injured. During the game the Flyers publicly reported that recently signed forward James van Riemsdyk was forced out of the game, and would not return, as the result ofa lower body injury but it appears that the Avalanche suffered a significant injury of their own during the course of that game.

The first sign that something was up came in the form of a relatively mysterious report from J.J. Herez of Mike High Sports. Herez reported last night that he personally saw an "important player" for the Avalanche headed into the x-ray room with the organizations medical staff but at the time Herez did not report the name of the player. Herez claimed that he was doing so out of respect for the team and cited the fact that he did not know how much information the Avalanche wanted out to the public regarding the potential injury. As is often the case in these situations however the information always eventually gets out.

Following the report from Herez, BSN Denver's AJ Haefele was quick to confirm the news that had been reported by Herez. Unlike Herez however Haefele was more than happy to report the name of the player that had walked into the x-ray room. According to Haefele the player who was spotted going into the room was none other than Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog. At this time we have no information regarding what part of his body was being upgrade and we have not heard any leaks regarding what type of injury the Avalanche may be concerned about.

The loss would be significant for the Avalanche not only from a talent perspective but also from a leadership perspective in the locker room. Following the loss of Matt Duchene last season the Avalanche rallied around the leadership of Landeskog and the play of Nathan MacKinnon and as a result the team greatly exceeded the expectations that had been laid out before them at the start of the regular season. Obviously when it comes to intangibles it's hard to measure exactly how much they contribute but Landeskog brings more than just intangibles to the table.

On top of his brand of physical player over the 79 games he played with the Avalanche last season Landeskog contributed 25 goals and added 37 assists for a total of 62 points over the 2017 - 2018 NHL regular season. It's a small sample size but Landeskog was also off to a hot start in the 2018 - 2019 NHL regular season. with 1 goal and 1 assists for 2 total points after just 2 games at the start of this season.
