Safety concerns have forced the National Hockey League to cancel one of it's games this week.

According to an official announcement released via the Florida Panther's website it has been revealed that the threat of Hurricane Matthew hitting land.

From the Panthers:

After consulting with the City of Sunrise, Broward County and various governmental officials and agencies, the Florida Panthers announced today that their preseason game on Thursday, Oct. 6, against the Tampa Bay Lightning at the BB&T Center has been postponed due to the expected landfall of Hurricane Matthew.

"While we are disappointed to announce the postponement of any event at the BB&T Center, the safety of our fans, staff and the people of South Florida is always our top priority," said Executive Chairman Peter Luukko.

They have officially called it a postponement, but there have been no plans announced for a make up game, or even a loose timeline of when that could take place, so for the time being we are viewing this as a cancellation of the game.
