Report: NHL insider finds Tavares trade rumor ridiculous!
Keystone Press

New York Islanders captain John Tavares has yet to sign a contract extension with the club, and since the Trade Deadline is four months away, trade speculations are, of course, already circulating on the star forward.

One of them has mentioned that Tavares could land with the Montreal Canadiens, who are in great need of an offensive boost, especially at center.

However, the great NHL insider Bob McKenzie simply cannot imagine that such a deal will take place. He explained why this morning on Montreal’s TSN 690

“The funny thing is I think he has seen three games or whatever, but you’ve got be a little bit careful here because obviously there’s some reason why he was there, and yet usually – and I think in two of those three instances – he was seeing the Islanders at a time right before the Montreal Canadiens were coming in. So the Canadiens were coming into the metropolitan New York area for the game with the Rangers or whoever it was, so he checked out an Islanders game. Bergevin goes to California with the Canadiens, but takes a little dodge out of San Jose to go to L.A. to watch a game. »

McKenzie is of course aware that the Habs might be scouting the market for some help, but does not think the Isles will listen to them.

“There was a lot of people on Twitter speculating that it’s John Tavares-related. I just shook my head at that one. I could be way off the mark, but I don’t think that’s a situation that the Islanders are pursuing right now and I don’t know that any general manager in the National Hockey League desperately needs to do a lot of pre-scouting on John Tavares. »

The renown insider does not however deny that the Canadiens might be looking at other options in Brooklyn.

“So I don’t know if there’s another player or what. Maybe over the course of time we’ll find out. But for now that’s kind of where it’s at.”
