When Ryan Getzlaf scored at Rogers Place last night to pull his Anaheim Ducks within one goal of the Edmonton Oilers, the Edmonton faithful were not happy. Then they saw the replay and their anger turned to frustration. Head coach Todd McLellan challenged the play for goaltender interference, but when the goal was allowed to stand fans went ballistic.

Now, more than 12 hours removed from the event, frustrations have still not simmered. TSN insider Pierre LeBrun took to social media last night in an effort set the record straight and put forth the NHL’s stance on the controversial Ducks goal.

By “the white” of course, LeBrun is referring to the area just outside of the goaltender’s crease. If the contact had happened within the blue paint of Cam Talbot’s domain, the resulting call may have been different. Tough pill for Oilers fans to swallow.

Whether you agree with the call or not, it clearly took some of the wind out of the Oilers’ sails. The goal ignited a three goal 2nd period surge for the Ducks who would eventually win the game in overtime on a one-timer snipe from Jakub Silfverberg, set up by…you guessed it: Ryan Getzlaf.
