The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety will be reviewing one of the big hits from Tuesday night's games.

According to an official announcement from Player Safety, the hit delivered by Los Angeles Kings' veteran defenseman Tom Gilbert to 20 year old Ducks forward Nick Ritchie.

While it did look like Gilbert was trying to make shoulder to shoulder contact, because of the position of Ritchie's body, the result was Gilbert drilling him from behind and into the boards.

To make matters worse the momentum appears to push Gilbert's shoulder into Ritchie's head, causing it to hit the boards. Even worse was the lack of call on the play, likely leading to a suspension for Gilbert.

Here's a look at the play.
