Speaking with Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald, Boston Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs shared his opinion on NHL expansion, and it may come as a surprise to many hockey fans. Despite already boasting an NHL ready arena and a solid ownership group, former NHL market Quebec City is apparently not on Jacobs’ radar to land an expansion franchise. Jacobs, for what it’s worth, is the Chairman of the NHL’s Board of Governors, so his words hold some hefty value.

Jacobs, in his own words:

“Quebec’s a great market and it has been for many years. But really when I think about it, I don’t see expansion going into the East. But that’s me, talking as Boston.”

When asked if he does see any appealing expansion markets, Jacobs highlighted two western cities: Seattle and Houston. He called the cities “huge markets” and agreed that Seattle in particular could be a  “very interesting location.”

It’s also worth noting that Jacobs’ parent company Sportservice Corporation has recently signed a multi-million dollar concessions deal with Seattle to renovate Seattle’s aging KeyArena
