That’s no way to treat a living legend!

According to a shocking report from long-time New York Post sportswriter Larry Brooks, the Florida Panthers promised 45-year-old Jaromir Jagr a contract extension at the conclusion of the season, only to rescind their commitment as the offseason wore on.

Here’s the scoop from Brooks himself:

We have it on good authority that Jagr was told at the end of the season by Florida management a contract offer would be forthcoming following the expansion draft, but then the pledge evaporated. Perhaps the change of heart followed the hiring of Bob Boughner as head coach.

Wow, if that’s true, it’s pretty low. While teams obviously have the right to change direction with regards to player personnel decisions, a living legend like Jaromir Jagr should be afforded a little more decency.

With NHL training camps less than a month away and Jagr still not signed to an NHL deal, you have to really wonder if this is it for the NHL’s 2nd all-time point leader. While a return to Florida seems unlikely, rumors have linked him to several teams including the Calgary Flames, Los Angeles Kings and even the NHL’s newest franchise, the Vegas Golden Knights.

Where do you think Jagr will end up? Or, is this it for the big man?
