Report: NHL training camps to open July 10th

This just in from Sportsnet hockey insider Chris Johnston, the NHL is targeting July 10th as its date for the opening of training camps.

Check it out:

Hearing the NHL is targetting July 10 for the start of Phase 3 (training camps), subject to getting an agreement done with the NHLPA.

That means that play likely won't resume until early August.

If everything gets taken care of and camps open on July 10, that would place the likely resumption of the NHL season at the beginning of August.

Maybe I'm being a bit insensitive here but... what are we waiting for?

If the players are allowed to gather and train in their NHL cities right now, why are we waiting a full month to start training camps? Can we not flip a switch and begin training in earnest next week? Again, I realize that I'm an insensitive guy who selfishly just wants to see hockey back on TV, but in my mind we can move this entire thing up a month. What's the old saying, "If you have time, use it"? These teams are going to all run a 3 week long training camp? Seems about twice as long as is needed.
