Report: NHL veteran of 1500+ games done?

When the Arizona Coyotes stepped away from longtime captain Shane Doan and allowed him to enter the free-agent market, the feeling around the league was that the veteran would wind up with a new contract in short order. Three weeks later, Doan still doesn’t have a contract and he seems finally willing to admit that his time may have come in the NHL.

Speaking with Kamloops This Week, a local publication in the former star’s offseason home, Doan said, "It's pretty hard to find that (one year contract). Pretty much impossible at this point. … We're just kind of waiting and seeing. We've talked to four or five teams."

We can only speculate who those teams may be, but you have to imagine that Doan isn’t too interested in stray too far from home. Likely, he’ll sign in the Western Conference or walk off into the sunset and retire as a 19 year NHL veteran.

If Doan is indeed finished, he’ll leave the game as the Coyotes' all time leader in nearly every statistical category including games played, points, goals and assists.
