Report: No sophomore slump for Matthews
Keystone Press

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews is suffering from no sophomore slump in his second season in the NHL! The 20-year old American, drafted first overall in 2016, has scored 13 goals and added 13 assists for 26 points in 23 games played so far this year. At this pace, he would finish the season with 88 points, 19 more of his total from last season.

The American forward had a tremendous rookie season last year, when he reached the 40 goal mark, added 29 assists for 69 points in 82 games. He added five points in six playoff games against the Washington Capitals

He also won the Calder Trophy at the end of the season (best performance by a rookie player).

Matthews has five points in the last four games he played. In Toronto's win against the Edmonton Oilers last night, he scored one goal and added an assist.
