Report: Nylander’s time with Leafs “likely over”, trade coming
Zuma Press

According to a report from Mike Chambers of The Denver Post, restricted free agent William Nylander’s time with the Toronto Maple Leafs “appears over.”

In his latest column for The Denver Post, Chambers makes some extremely strong worded assertions about Nylander and attempts to connect the dots on a trade between the Leafs and Colorado Avalanche on a potential deal involving the Swedish sniper.

Check out some of these quotes:

Nylander’s three-year career in Toronto appears over, because of his salary demands and the fact the Leafs need to bolster their blue line.
Nylander, the eighth selection in the 2014 draft, likely will be traded by Dec. 1, the deadline for him to sign with an NHL team and play this season. The standoff will end, and all signs point towards a trade to a team in need of a top-six right winger with salary cap space to work with.
The Avs also aren’t likely to throw a ton of money at Nylander, who reportedly wants a long-term deal in the $8.5 million-annual range.

Chambers goes on to concede the Avs likely aren’t a good fit for the Leafs when it comes to trading partners, despite the Avs’ desperate need for a top six winger. With superstar Nathan MacKinnon locked in at $6.3 million and with a pricey extension for Mikko Rantanen on the horizon, there’s little chance that Avs general manager Joe Sakic is interested in taking on Nylander at such a steep contractual cost.

So now the question becomes: If Nylander IS going to be traded and the Avs are NOT a realistic destination… where is? Analysts have thrown out the Vancouver Canucks, Detroit Red Wings, New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers as potential trade partners, but as of right now it’s all just speculation. Sit tight, Leafs fans.
