The Edmonton Oilers have placed one of their veteran defensemen on waivers.

An official report from the Oilers has confirmed that defenseman Mark Fayne has been made available on waivers, presumably for the purpose of sending him down to Bakersfield and the American Hockey League. He has appeared in just one game for the Oilers this season, and this will be his first AHL assignment since December of 2015.

Ference played the better part of the last three seasons in the National Hockey League, two with the Oilers and one prior to that with the New Jersey Devils, and it's within the realm of possibility that a team considers claiming him, although he has cleared waivers before. In his only game with the Oilers this season Fayne had one point, an assist, and was a plus minus of 1 on the night as a result.
