The Edmonton Oilers have given a young defenseman his very first National Hockey League contract.

According to a report from the Edmonton Oilers official website, the team has signed 18-year-old defenseman Dmitri Samorukov to an entry-level contract.

Samorukov was the Edmonton Oilers third round selection at the NHL Entry Draft in 2017, and thus far has just one season of professional hockey under his belt as a member of the Ontario Hockey League's Guelph Storm.

In 67 games with the Storm last season Samorukov recorded 4 goals and 16 assists for a a total of 20 points over that stretch, and it has to be noted he had a plus minus rating of -24 as well.

It seems unlikely that he will be getting a significant NHL call up this season.
