If you are a fan of the Edmonton Oilers and you suspected that something seemed a little off with veteran defenseman Oscar Klefbom then you might be a pretty good detective.

Although there has been no official report from the Oilers regarding the status of their 26 year old blue liner, Daniel Nugent-Bowman is now reporting that Klefbom is currently fighting through it. According to his report the former first round pick has been battling with a foot injury ever since he blocked a shot last week when the Oilers faced off against fellow Canadian team the Ottawa Senators. That game was all the way back on Wednesday so it seems as though, although this is clearly not a serious injury given that he is still playing, this is one that has been bothering Klefbom for at least the past couple of days now.

The Oilers lost a very tight game to the Buffalo Sabres on Sunday night and one of the big question marks following the game was just how limited Klefbom had been during the game. It seems however that head coach Dave Tippett had very good reason to limit Klefbom given this injury news and it also explains why the defender's minutes have dipped in the past two games as well as why he has not been seen out on the ice killing penalties.

Given that this is not an official report it is difficult to gauge just what type of injury this may be or the severity of that injury, but it will be interesting to see how the Oilers move forward from here if the injury continues to limit Klefbom's play. The defenseman has appeared in 32 games for the Oilers this season and has contributed 2 goals and 17 assists for a combined total of 19 points in 2019 - 2020, and he currently boasts a plus minus rating of -17.
