Report: Penguins rocked by another long term injury

With key players like captain Sidney Crosby and defenseman Justin Schultz already on the injured reserve, the last thing the struggling Pittsburgh Penguins need is another long-term injury to one of its veterans. Unfortunately, the Hockey Gods don’t always grant mercy and as such, the Penguins announced this afternoon that veteran forward Matt Cullen will be out “longer term” with a lower body injury.

Check it out:

The 42 year old centre has two goals and four points in 18 games with the Penguins this season, after rejoining the team in free agency this past offseason. He managed 11 goals and 22 points in 79 games with his hometown Minnesota Wild last season, but elected to come back to Pittsburgh, the place where he won back to back Stanley Cup championships, this past summer.

With the Penguins struggling to put wins together, there’s no doubt that they’ll feel the loss of Cullen’s veteran leadership. Here’s hoping he can recover as quickly as possible and get back in the lineup to help steer this team back in the right direction.
