Report: Player admits being traded was “a sigh of relief“
Keystone Press

When it was announced on Saturday Nathan Beaulieau had been traded from the Montreal Canadiens to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for draft picks, you might think that the  24 year-old defensemen would take the news hard. Not so. In fact, Beaulieau has described the situation as being a “huge opportunity” and seems happy to move on from the hockey crazy market of Montreal.

''It definitely took the stress level off me,'' said the smooth skating defender. ’’Having that happen just before the (trade) freeze was a huge sigh of relief. And going to Buffalo was a bonus.''

Despite the Francophone name, Beaulieau is actually from Southern Ontario and grew up not far from Buffalo in Strathroy, Ontario. While he’s excited to join his new team, Beaulieau didn’t have many nice things to say about his time in Montreal. In fact, he didn’t have anything to say about it at all, saying only, ''I'm not going to get into too much about Montreal. I’m focused on Buffalo.''
