This has to be one of the biggest mistakes in recent NHL history.

If you're a member of the Calgary Flames organization or a fan of the team this one is going to hurt.

Montreal Canadiens forward Paul Byron is on an absolute tear this season and now many are questioning the decision that cost the Calgary Flames his services all the way back in 2015.

In October of 2015 the Flames made the difficult decision to place Byron on waivers, a decision that now has to be considered a catastrophic mistake, and unfortunately for the Flames the Montreal Canadiens stepped up to the plate and general manager Marc Bergevin made the decision to claim him off of waivers.

Byron has 11 goals for the Canadiens this season, a number that now has him officially outscoring every single member of the Calgary Flames this season with their leading scorer Sean Monahan only producing 10 goals thus far on the season.

The worst part? Byron only comes in at a cap hit of $1.66 million per season, consierably less than the $6.37 million the Flames are currently paying Monahan.

This has to be one of the worst personnel decisions made in recent NHL history.
