Report : Possible lockout looming ahead in the NHL.

So much has been going on this summer already in the NHL and the regular season is still 3 months away. From the expansion draft to the entry draft, and then the UFA market exploding in the last few days, fans had plenty of excitement to go around.

However, all is not necessarily well in the kingdom of the frozen puck. Many huge contracts pushing the envelope were awarded in the last few days and some commentators are starting to believe the next few months might be open for some rock'n'roll between the NHL and the NHLPA. For one thing, some grumbling is heard about the usage of non-movement clause, or their limited variants. Ron Hainsey's contract was used as an example by the reputable Darren Dreger.

The collective bargaining agreement (CBA) is set to expire only in 2021-2022, so there's still plenty of hockey to be played until then. However, the next few years will be determining how the negociation will turn out. You can't blame players for using the CBA to their full advantage, but we saw plenty of grumbling by GMs recently because of non-movement clause issues.

Oh, the NHL sometimes.
