As the Detroit Red Wings ready themselves to face off against the Carolina Hurricanes ahead of tomorrow night’s matchup, head coach Jeff Blashill is surely content with knowing that his team’s power play tactics seem to be paying off.

 

Teams will often opt to utilize four forwards and a single defenseman during the man advantage and Blashill decided to follow suit. The assumption is that they’ll play in a cross formation, with one forward crashing the net and a defenseman manning the blue line. Thus, it comes as no surprise that Thomas Vanek leads the way with four power play points, while Darren Helm, Mike Green, Henrik Zetterberg, and Frans Nielsen each have two points in the same situation.
