It looks like we may be seeing a familiar duo in charge of reconstructing a formerly great franchise.
According to Dave Molinari of the
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, former Pittsburgh Penguins GM Ray Shero is currently attempting to recruit a familiar face to the rebuild of the New Jersey Devils.
First class coaching candidate Dan Bylsma is in Shero's cross-hairs, and there is a lot of evidence that suggests the Devils would be a good fit for the Stanley Cup winning coach.
The two led the Penguins to Pittsburgh's Stanley Cup championship in 2009. Bylsma took over four months after receiving the call from Shero to take the reins of his under-performing contender. After five playoff runs that ended in moderate success and ultimately was let go by the team despite a .668 regular season winning percentage. His success was achieved in tandem with Shero and may be the key to turning the floundering Devils back in the right direction.
Their influence is missed in Pittsburgh as Jim Rutherford and Mike Johnston, who took over for Shero and Bylsma, have since guided the Penguins to their worst finish since Sidney Crosby's rookie season.
Don't be surprised to see the two men team up once again.
