Report: Rangers have signed experienced goaltender
Keystone Press

The New York Rangers have reportedly signed goaltender Marek Mazanec, as they placed him on waivers today, in the intend of assigning him to the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL).

Because Mazanec started the season in the KHL, the Rangers needed to place him on waivers, even if he already signed with them. He is expected to clear, and once he did, they will assign him to the AHL. Mazanec can become an option if Henrik Lundqvist gets injured, or if Ondrej Pavelec continues to struggle in the backup role.

Mazanec, 26, was drafted 179th by the Nashville Predators in 2012. He played 31 games in the NHL, owning a record of 8-13-4 with a 2.97 goals-against average and a .895 save percentage.

The Rangers are playing against the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight.
