Report: Rangers top prospect could be leaving the team

Young players development is an important, if not the most important thing in today’s NHL. Players need ice time to build their confidence and improve their skill set. At some point General Managers have to make hard decisions on what’s best for their young guys. The New York Rangers will have to make one for prospect Filip Chytil shortly. The 18-year-old prospect, drafted 21st overall in the last entry draft, played the first two games of the season (both losses), with an ice time well under ten minutes. On Sunday night, Chytil was an healthy scratch when the Rangers defeated the Montreal Canadiens.

Because of his age, the only two options for him this season is either playing in the NHL or back in his native Czech Republic. He would play a lot more in Europe, and that would certainly help his development. The Rangers still have time before making a decison, because the first year of Chytil contract’s would be burned if he plays ten games with the team. They could still dress him and try him in different roles.
