Report: Rangers veteran Klein calls it quits
Keyston Press

Rumors about the future of New York Rangers defenseman Kevin Klein have been swirling since the end of the 2016-17 season. Will he come back? Or, will the back injuries that limited Klein to just 60 games this past season force him into an early retirement? Well, if one report is to be believed, Klein will indeed retire from professional hockey at just age 32.

The rugged defender acquired from the Nashville Predators in 2014 played three and a half season in New York and, at one point in time, looked to be a big part of the team’s young defence corps along with Ryan McDonagh and Marc Staal. Now, however, Klein appears ready to walk away from the game entirely for the betterment of his own personal health.

The good news for Rangers fans is that with Klein off the books, the team will now save $2.9 million in 2017-18, which is money that they can use in their pursuit of unrestricted free-agent Kevin Shattenkirk this offseason.

Farewell Kevin Klein, you were a true warrior for the Rangers! All the best!
