Report: Red Wings Made Offer For Star Defenseman

Winnipeg Jets’ budding star defenseman Jacob Trouba has made it publicly clear last weekend that he wants to be traded. Ideally, he would find himself on a team that wants to exploit the right-handed shooter by playing him in a top-4 position on- you guessed it- the right-hand side.

Enter the Detroit Red Wings, who were in on the 22-year-old during this past offseason. Darren Dreger of TSN reports that “… (an offer) came from Detroit. I’m told that it involved two of their higher-level forwards, and Holland wasn’t willing or able to stomach that. As much as the Detroit Red Wings need defense, they can’t move out multiple pieces of scoring, otherwise they fill one hole and dig another,” he told TSN 1200 earlier today.

Rumor has it that the first and foremost important piece of this trade would have been promising young forward Anthony Mantha, which justifies why general manager Ken Holland was reluctant to make a move.
