The Detroit Red Wings were not one of the teams rumored to have interest in free agent forward Jimmy Vesey, but it turns out they did in fact make a pitch to acquire the talented young forward.

Unfortunately according to a report from Red Wings insider Ansar Khan of Mlive.com it appears that the Red Wings pitch was soundly rejected and in fact may have been entirely in vain to begin with.

"We did our best," Red Wings assistant general manager Ryan Martin said. "We spoke to his agent about depth and opportunity. He said he preferred to play closer to home."

Vesey would not only have been a terrific addition to the Red Wings roster, but likely would have also provided general manager Ken Holland with an opportunity to trade one of his forwards for help on the blue line. Unfortunately the hope of a Vesey signing in Detroit is officially dead.
