The Detroit Red Wings, already missing veteran forward Thomas Vanek due to injury, have learned that they’ll be without the services of fellow veteran forward Darren Helm for the next two months due to a shoulder injury. This according to a report from Red Wings insider Helene St. James of the The Detroit Free Press via Wings general manager Ken Holland.

Check it out:

With just one goal and six points in the Wings’ first 20 games this season, it’s not like the team will miss Helm’s offensive contributions, but his defensive impact cannot be ignored.

With Helm sidelined for the next while, Red Wings rookie Michael Rasmussen should see an increase in ice time. The 6 foot, 6 inch, 220 pound 19 year old has five goals and seven points in his first 18 NHL games. It’ll be interesting to see how his totals increase given some new opportunities.
