The NHL finally steps up and does something about its refereeing.

According to a report from Toronto’s TSN 1050 radio, the NHL has spoken to and reportedly reprimanded the on-ice officials from Game Two of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ and Boston Bruins’ first round playoff series.

The game, of course, went completely off the rails and culminated in Leafs forward Nazem Kadri crosschecking Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk in the face.

Kadri was subsequently suspended for the balance of the series.

Prior to Kadri’s infraction though, he was absolutely railroaded by DeBrusk with what many consider to be a dirty knee on knee hit.

Whatever side of the fence your allegiances lay on, it’s clear that things got out of hand on Saturday evening.

No word yet on what, if any penalties or stipulations will apply to referees Brad Meier and Trevor Hanson, but don’t hold your breath the NHL announcing it regardless. The league has been notoriously tight-lipped on its dealings with referees and linesmen.
