The story that unfolded between the Vegas Golden Knights and forward Vadim Shypachyov has created a lot of controversy around the NHL and, consequently, the Kontinental Hockey League in Russia.

The 30-year-old signed a new contract with the St. Peterburgh SKA on Saturday and had a chance to explain what took place in Vegas. When explaining how things finally headed to a contract termination between the two parties, Shipachyov issued a severe warning to his fellow countrymen.

"The promises which I was given in America didn't come off, but everything works out for the best," Shipachyov told the KHL. "A lot of other SKA players who are here now have gone down this route, it's probably the correct strategy.

"Now I know that Russian players should think 10 times before leaving for abroad, it's different from what the clubs and agents tell you."

Shipachyov signed with SKA, where he played the past four seasons prior to drawing NHL interest. The veteran forward has a much better relationship with the SKA management than he did with Knights general manager George McPhee.

"Face to face I was told one thing, but when it came to hockey, the story changed ... However, even a negative experience helps you appreciate how things worked in St. Petersburg."

Forwards Andrei Svechnikov and Grigori Denisenko are Russian players eligible for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft and might be influenced by Shipachyov's comments.
