Rookie Did Not Develop as Fast as Expected

Now that Marc-Andre Fleury is out of Pittsburgh, who will be Matt Murray’s backup goalie? Many expected Tristan Jarry could be ready to handle that situation. Jarry was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second round (44th overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

However, maybe the rookie goaltender did not develop as fast as expected.

Penguins beat writer for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Jason Mackey, met with the Pittsburgh Penguins Mike Buckley. Mike Buckley said the plan is to let Tristan Jarry develop another year. Means Penguins will shop for a proven backup goalie.

Buckley on Jarry: “He’s definitely ready [for the NHL], but it’s always best to give him more time. We’re going to give him another year.

Jim Rutherford needs to start shopping for a backup goaltender for next season. Should he take a shot at some who’ll be available by July 1st (Mason, Miller, Elliott, Bernier)?
