TSN analyst and NHL insider Darren Dreger was on Montreal’s TSN 690 radio station this morning discussing all the latest trade speculation around the NHL when he made a shocking declaration about the future of Buffalo Sabres forward Evander Kane.

We already know from Bob McKenzie’s reports yesterday that with unrestricted free-agency looming in the summer that it’s expected Kane will be moved at some point this season. But, what Dreger has uncovered, is the asking price for the 26-year-old winger.

“So you’re talking about probably at the very least a prospect and a draft pick. Or maybe Buffalo just wants a player who can play now, so you’re going to have to take on a contract.

Dreger went even further, offering up some potential destinations for Kane:

“If you’re a team like Anaheim, as an example, in that win-now mode – and they’re looking for a forward – Evander Kane makes some sense. But for cap reasons, budget reasons, maybe Anaheim – if they are genuinely interested – would have to add a contract just to make the money make sense.”

Kane as a member of the Anaheim Ducks seems like a perfect fit doesn’t it? With Patrick Eaves out long-term, Kane could provide the perfect solution. Again though, it all comes down to the return for Buffalo GM Jason Botterill. Do the Ducks have the assets to get a deal done? Stay tuned, until Kane is either traded or signs long-term in Buffalo, he’ll continue to be at the center of trade speculation.
