Report: Sabres trying to poach another team’s GM!

What's Pegula thinking?

When Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula fired his team’s head coach Dan Bylsma and general manager Tim Murray of their positions last week, he promised replacements immediately. In his press conference Pegula was noticeably upset with how things had transpired under Murray’s tenure and made it clear that he’d be more involved in his team’s next hirings. And, so far, he’s kept his word.

Rumours out of the desert from ArizonaSports.com reporter Craig Morgan indicate that Pegula had requested permission from the Arizona Coyotes to speak with their general manager, John Chayka. You read that correctly…John Chayka. The 27 year-old wunderkid GM whom the Coyotes signed just one year ago. Of course, the Coyotes denied Pegula permission, as is their right.

The fact that Pegula would even think that Arizona might let go of Chayka really boggles the mind. Coyotes management has made it clear that Chayka is driving the future of their franchise. So, this really begs the question: is this just another example of how out of touch the Sabres management have become?
